Falling for Jesus:Shining a Little Brighter This Fall

There’s something about the beginning of fall that makes me want to slow down a little. The days get shorter. The evenings come earlier. We pull out the blankets, light a candle, grab a warm drink, and start looking for something good to curl up and read.

So why not the Bible? 🍂

This season, I’ve been thinking about what it really means to carry the Light of Jesus into a world that can sometimes feel awfully dark. And I don’t think it always looks like we imagine.

It’s probably not perfectly fixed hair, a spotless house, matching socks, or having everything together. Thank goodness, because some days I’m doing good to find two socks at all. 😂 We spend so much time scrutinizing the little things about ourselves that most people probably never notice.

But our hearts?

Those get noticed.

People notice how we treat someone who can do absolutely nothing for us.

They notice whether we still have joy when the day doesn’t go our way.

They notice how we respond when someone is unkind.

They notice whether we offer grace instead of judgment.

And they notice how we respond to a world that doesn’t always believe, behave, or think the way we do.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean condemning everyone around us. It means loving people while standing firm in what we believe. It means choosing kindness without compromising truth. It means extending the same grace that Jesus so freely extends to us.

Some days our light may shine brightly. Other days, after disappointment, exhaustion, worry, or one thing after another going wrong, it might feel more like a tiny flicker.

But even a tiny light changes a dark room.

So as the leaves begin to fall and the evenings grow darker, maybe this is a beautiful time to ask ourselves:

Can people see Jesus in me—not because of what I say, but because of how I live?

• Curl up with the Good Book.

• Spend a little longer with Him.

• Give somebody grace.

• Laugh at the mismatched socks.

• Choose joy when the day is less than joyful.

• And carry His Light wherever you go.

Because the most beautiful thing we can wear this fall isn’t a new sweater.

It’s a heart that looks a little more like Jesus. 🤎🍂
